Very pleased to announce that “In His Prime- Argali Ram” has been accepted into “Petz and Animalz” 3 Square Art’s upcoming exhibition in Fort Collins, Colorado. What makes this one special and one of the reasons I entered is that the juror was longtime illustrator and now fine artist Bob Coonts, who I have never met but certainly had heard of. The argali ram in the painting is one that I encountered at Ikh Nartiin Chuluu Nature Reserve a few years ago. It’s part of my “New Direction” series in which I combine a realistic depiction of my subject with Mongolian decorative motifs.

Bonus! Image 3 ;0)- Decides that I’d also post the full spread of the two sketches. They each took around 20 minutes, not counting time yakking with the other artists who were there. I really LOVE this Stillman and Birn Delta series paper. Just the right amount of tone and a good weight that can take a wash.
Also signature bound so I can work across the gutter or end up with nice facing pages like I did today. The Sakura pen moved very smoothly as did the water brush I used with the Derwent water soluble colored pencils.

We met at the Arcata Marsh main parking lot, which gives a view of the entire northern end of Humboldt Bay. I did two pieces, this one looking to the west and the north spit.
