Inktober 4- “Mongolian Sheep”- Another piece done with the Copic Multiliner SP 0.1 in my Stillman and Birn Beta Series sketchbook. The wool let me get looser with the pen, but I was careful to try to capture the expression in the eye. I did bite the bullet […]
I'm a nature/wildlife artist. I love to travel and enjoy reading, gardening and birdwatching; My taste in music runs to Mongolian rock and pop, 60's rock. pre-1940's jazz, afro-celt world music. I started my art career as a sign painter's apprentice in 1976 and earned a BFA in Illustration in 1989 from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. I've worked as a freelance sign painter/graphic designer, then graphic designer/illustrator. For the past twenty years I've focused on oil painting, but am now also going full circle back to the media I first fell in love with, pen and ink. I'm a member of the California Art Club, a Signature Member of Artists for Conservation and a Fellow of The Explorers Club. My work has appeared in a variety of prestigious national juried shows since 2003.

Yes, I missed the “deadline”. Sigh. “Pretty in Pink” oil 16×20” 2005- Peruvian pink-backed pelicans that I saw at the Berlin Zoo in 2004. Loved the colors and their expressions! Collection of the artist.
I’ve always remembered one of the first things my Illustration II teacher at the Academy of Art told us, which is that “the simpler statement is the stronger statement”. Easy to say, surprisingly hard to do. It’s easy to just accept what’s in front of you and put […]
TBT “Black Oystercatcher” a 12×24″ oil from 2007. Private collection. I took lots of photos of this oystercatcher moving around on the rocks near Trinidad State Beach and than had fun painting both the bird and the water
