Inktober52 is an international year-long event for pen and ink artists. Considering there’s a pandemic on, I’m happy that I did 51 and that I had a lot of fun in the process. I really got to stretch a bit creatively, coming up with an idea to fit each prompt. I found that I now have a character who will probably show up again in the future…The Rat.
Anyone can participate in Inktober52, not just professional artists. Each Thursday Jake Parker, the creator and organizer, emails the prompt for that week (Inktober52 for 2021 is under way, but I’ve moved on to other pen and ink work). The artists are free to do as many or few drawings as they wish. The purpose is to have fun and work on one’s pen and ink skills. I mostly used dip pens (21 different nibs) and occasionally a fountain pen or Copic Multiliner. Almost all them were done on Strathmore 300 vellum bristol paper or illustration board or Clearprint Heavy Vellum.
All the drawings were originally posted on Instagram and Pinterest. Included there are short descriptions of my process and inspirations.
