A Very Special Version of the WildArt Mongolia Expedition Logo!

This is the “plain” version, which one reads from top to bottom, left to right.

I have a number of goals for the WildArt Mongolia Expedition. The main one is the collaboration between American and Mongol artists, but I want to create connections in other ways too. One idea I had, but starting out had no clue how I would accomplish it, was to have the Expedition name written out in the beautiful Mongol classical vertical script, called “bichig”, which dates back to the time of Chinggis Khan and was, in fact, selected by him to give the Mongols the written alphabet they needed in order to administer their new empire. It is Uigher in origin. It’s taught in the schools, used for many purposes and it doesn’t surprise me at this point to meet a Mongol who can read this 800 year old writing.

With a drop shadow added. This is my favorite.

My problem was solved when I found out that one of my Mongol Facebook friends, Munkhtur Luvsamjambaa, besides being a caricature artist who has worked for Universal Studios (he lives in Los Angeles), is also a calligrapher and a designer. I told him what I wanted, we agreed upon a price and within a week or so three versions had arrived in my inbox and been posted on my Facebook page.

But this works beautifully too. I like how he left a white hairline boundary around the lettering.

I’m thrilled with what he has created and want to let people know about not only his calligraphy, but the other artistic and design work he does. You can visit his website here. For my readers who live in Southern California and are planning a party, he will attend it and do caricatures of your guests. How cool is that? For anyone, he will write your name in bichig for a quite reasonable fee.

Here’s the bio from his website:

I am the only Mongolian caricaturist
in the USA.

I remember that I started drawing when I was 3. Since then, I never stopped exploring art. I always loved asking “why?” questions and reading books. I imagined that my love would become my profession, and I am so grateful that it eventually happened that way. I graduated from the Modern Art College, the Fine Art University of Mongolia and Los Angeles Pacific College, where my artistic abilities were expanded into sculpture, painting, and graphic design.

Since graduation, I have worked for several art entertainment and TV commercial companies such as Universal Studios Hollywood and Talent Partners, LLC.

I’ll be using the bichig logo for a variety of things connected with the Expedition.

Munkhtur….bayarlala!
